Sensei Joao Fernande The Algarve

Sensei João Fernandes started his martial arts training back in Portugal in 1989 in the art of Karate, where after a few months he was already helping the instructors teaching beginners.
Even before he showed a particular interest in the combat arts, but his family could not afford classes.
However he soon had a feeling that something was missing so he started looking for a style that could give him a sense of fulfillment.
He then met a gentleman who invited him to try a style known as Jiu-Jutsu. When he arrived at the dojo he realised that this gentleman was the Master of a style called Kiai Yamabushi Ryu. The class started and it was the beginning of the trip of a lifetime…
Training as uchi-deshi of Hanshi Lee-Barron he earned the shodan degree at 16 years old. By the time he was 22 he had the yondan degree He undergone several courses in martial arts and travelled abroad very often with his instructor to train different martial arts. Currently he holds the rank of godan and is the Chief instructor of the "Associação Portuguesa Kiai Yamabushi Ryu"(Portuguese Association Kiai Yamabushi Ryu) and represents Nippon Traditional Kobudo in Portugal.
